Custom and prefabricated ankle foot orthoses for fitting
The ankle foot orthosis (A.F.O.) is one of the most common devices that we design and manufacture. The A.F.O. is used for a large variety of orthopedic and neurologically based conditions. This device maintains the foot and ankle in a more functional and / or orthopedically stable position. An A.F.O. can stabilize the ankle to maintain a foot flat position, aid in the management of drop foot conditions, restrict movement that would normally cause pain and be used as an alternative to a cast following ankle surgeries. The A.F.O. can be designed with various ankle joint systems to aid dorsiflexion, limit a particular range of motion and / or stabilize the foot and ankle in a medial / lateral plane.

Recent changes in design have allowed for the use of low profile carbon fibre orthoses such as the Camp ToeOFF, Otto Bock Walk On and the Ossur AFO lite and carbon lite.

We at Island Orthotics Inc. have recently created a new design of AFO for drop foot conditions. It is a soft rubber laminated version with very flexible qualities to the orthosis. It is more more comfortable and life like in is feel and function. We have dubbed this AFO design the Tufflex AFO or TFAFO.

Walkaide for Drop Foot
This exciting new technology is now available through Island Orthotics Inc. Simply put this is a neuro stimulator that acts to fire the deficient muscle in the lower limb to produce a toe up or dorsiflexion action for those with upper motor neuron conditions. More information can be found on the Walkaide at www.walkaide.com or by calling Island Orthotics Inc. directly for a consult.
