As the body ages the intervertebral discs begin to deteriorate and loose the ability to cushion the vertebral bones, and the ligaments attaching bone to bone thicken and lose elasticity. The ligaments can’t tolerate too much of an increased strain found in normal activities such as gardening or playing golf, especially after a long period of inactivity.
The primary role of the Lumbo-sacral Orthosis (LSO) is to provide mechanical and hydrostatic support to the lumbar or lower back region. Providing abdominal compression elongates the spine reducing stress to the intervertebral discs and physical support to the muscles and ligaments.
