The ankle foot orthosis (A.F.O.) is one of the most common devices that we design and manufacture. The A.F.O. is used for a large variety of orthopedic and neurologically based conditions. This device maintains the foot and ankle in a more functional and / or orthopedically stable position. An A.F.O. can stabilize the ankle to maintain a foot flat position, aid in the management of drop foot conditions, restrict movement that would normally cause pain and be used as an alternative to a cast following ankle surgeries. The A.F.O. can be designed with various ankle joint systems to aid dorsiflexion, limit a particular range of motion and / or stabilize the foot and ankle in a medial / lateral plane.
Recent changes in design have allowed for the use of low profile carbon fibre orthoses such as the Camp ToeOFF, Otto Bock Walk On, computer aided Walkaide, and the Ossur AFO lite.
